Branching out to brighter futures

Onwenu’s Oak Tree supports young adults aging out of foster care with housing, mentorship, and career development, ensuring they have the foundation to succeed.

Impact & Why It Matters

Every year, thousands of young adults age out of foster care without the support they need to succeed. Many face homelessness, unemployment, and incarceration simply because they were never given a stable foundation. Here’s the reality:

The Reality of Aging Out

  • 50% of the homeless population has a foster care history.
  • 80% of incarcerated individuals have been in the foster care system.
  • Only 3% of foster youth graduate from college.
  • More than 18,000 young adults age out of foster care each year without support.

Without a safety net, these young adults are left to navigate life alone. Onwenu’s Oak Tree is here to change that.

Join the Onwenu's Oak Tree Network

Every young adult deserves a strong support system, but for many aging out of foster care, that safety net doesn’t exist. The Onwenu’s Oak Tree Network is designed to change that by connecting caring mentors with young adults who need guidance, encouragement, and real-world advice as they transition into independence.

As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact by offering career advice, life skills coaching, and emotional support. Whether it’s helping with job applications, financial planning, or simply being someone they can turn to, your guidance can shape a brighter future for a young adult who might otherwise face these challenges alone.

You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who cares. By committing just a little time, you can help provide stability, confidence, and hope for a young person working to build a better future.

Become a Mentor Today!

"Before Onwenu’s Oak Tree, I had no stable housing, no guidance, and no idea how to move forward. They gave me a place to stay, a mentor, and the support I needed to build my future. Now, I have a steady job, my own apartment, and confidence in what’s ahead."
