At Onwenu’s Oak Tree, we are dedicated to empowering young adults aging out of foster care by providing stable housing, mentorship, career development, and mental health resources. We believe that every young adult deserves a strong foundation and a network of support to help them build a successful future.
Too many young adults exit the foster care system without the guidance, stability, and resources needed to transition into adulthood. Without support, many face homelessness, unemployment, or incarceration. Onwenu’s Oak Tree was founded to change that.
We created a long-term support system designed to provide not just immediate assistance, but lasting opportunities. Through housing, mentorship, financial literacy, and emotional support, we help young adults gain the independence and confidence they need to thrive.
Housing & Transportation Support ensures that every participant has a stable and secure place to live for the full five years of the program. We provide long-term housing, helping participants transition into adulthood without the fear of homelessness. Reliable transportation is also a priority, with support for public transit, driver’s license programs, and vehicle assistance to ensure access to work, education, and essential services.
The Onwenu’s Oak Tree Network (Mentorship & Career Development) is a continuous, structured mentorship program that connects participants with dedicated mentors for the full five years. Through personalized career guidance, life skills coaching, and professional networking opportunities, mentors help young adults navigate employment, education, and personal development, ensuring they have long-term support as they transition into independence.
Mental Health & Wellness is an integral part of the program, providing access to therapy, group support, and emotional wellness resources for all five years. Participants receive consistent mental health care, including one-on-one therapy, peer support groups, and wellness workshops focused on healing from past trauma, developing coping mechanisms, and maintaining emotional well-being.
Financial Literacy & Independence is woven into the program to ensure that participants develop the necessary skills to manage their finances responsibly. Throughout the five years, participants receive education on budgeting, saving, credit building, and financial planning, allowing them to work toward long-term economic stability and independence.
Continuing Education Support is available throughout the program, helping participants navigate college, trade schools, and career certification programs. Whether pursuing a degree, vocational training, or specialized certifications, Onwenu’s Oak Tree provides ongoing academic support, scholarship assistance, and career planning to ensure each participant has access to the education they need for long-term success.
Substance Abuse Prevention & Recovery is a structured support system available for the full program duration. Participants struggling with substance use receive access to counseling, rehabilitation resources, sober living support, and recovery programs, helping them maintain a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle.
Onwenu’s Oak Tree provides five years of continuous support, ensuring young adults aging out of foster care have the stability, guidance, and resources to build a secure future.
